These “About” pages are the hardest to write, mostly because I have no idea what you’d like to know about me. I think, however, most people are probably looking for some common ground or perhaps just want a glimpse into what motivates a person to bare their soul or spend their extra time writing about their passions, interests, or simply life in general for people they don’t even know.
So let’s start with the basics — the common ground stuff.
I’m single, but not by choice. My husband of 34 years died suddenly a few years back. We spent most of our life in western New York raising our family and loving life but had moved to Massachusetts for a job opportunity a couple years before he passed. And we loved it there. We called it our “Great Adventure” — we were empty nesters that spent weekends exploring New England and making memories. I loved the time we had together and am so thankful for that. After he died, I decided to move to Georgia and live near my son, taking an early retirement and escaping the cold and snow.
I’ve been living in the south for a few years now and, as much as I love it here, I miss my family and friends up north something fierce. It’s taken me awhile to adjust to the changes life has thrown at me but I’m finally starting to find my way to the other side. Hence, this blog.
I’ve come to realize that I want to live my life more fully – but also more simply. I want to be healthy – and up until now haven’t really made much effort at living a healthy lifestyle. I want to finally take time to dive into interests that I never made time for while I was busy working, raising a family, or being a wife. Basically, I want to make some pretty big changes in the way I take care of myself and use the time the good Lord has given me in a more purposeful way. I want to have fun. I want to smile and be happy. Jack Kerouac wrote:
“Be in love with your life. Every minute of it.”
That sounds like good advice. So I’m turning the tide so to speak, getting rid of some old habits that no longer serve me, and taking things one day at a time. This blog is really meant to be a journal of sorts that documents what I’m doing and holds me accountable to the choices I’m embracing. And I’d like to share what I learn and these new experiences with anyone who might benefit from it.
So that about sums it up. I’m sure this next chapter in my life will be another “Great Adventure” and I think I’m ready for it.
